Sange Falase is an anti-disciplinary artist whose work queries the body as a vessel for performance in relation to materiality and spatial systems in order to dream up emancipatory futures. Their practice spans performance, screen and installation. Alongside their artistic practice, they work as an educator and associate lecturer at a higher education arts institution, as well as a researcher and writer.
Their research examines speculative and decolonial design methodologies that draw from afrofuturist and feminist frameworks, focusing on how fugtivitivity and resistance show up within design. Their practice positions the body within a spatial system as a veneration of ancestral memory.
In 2018, they became the first recipient of a design bursary awarded by MGCFutures, in conjunction with the Gate Theatre. In 2023, they were nominated for the Off West End Theatre Awards for stage design. From 2024 to 2025, they were part of the Soho Theatre Writers’ Lab.
